Friday in Rocky Mountain National Park

We set out for Estes Park & Rocky Mountain National Park on Friday right after lunch.  The boys napped on the drive, which was just under 2 hours.  We stopped off at our condo first, and were greeted by this Elk!
After unpacking and organizing in the condo, we headed out for the park and a pre-dinner hike.  The boys were thrilled we got to take a school bus shuttle to the Bear Lake trailhead (thanks to weekday construction:-).  It was a perfect way to start our weekend....and easy .5 mile hike, totally flat, with beautiful views of the mountains behind the lake.

The Bolthouse choo choo train!  Kenny's the engine and Mommy's the caboose!

The boys were a bit bored by the basic hike, so decided to go off-trail for some rock climbing!

We ended the day with storytime on our deck....with the sound of the Fall River lulling us to sleep.  This condo was INCREDIBLE!  (Estes Park Condos Unit A - 2 Bedroom)

Saturday in RMNP

HIKE #1:  Dream Lake or Bust
We hit the trails at 9AM bound for Dream Lake.  Our first stop was Nymph Lake....with some cool driftwood.

From Nymph Lake the hike headed uphill, which meant lots of rock climbing breaks!
 And beautiful vistas!
These two were incredible hikers!  They were on foot the entire way!

This little crevice looked too interesting to pass by!  Of course I had to yell "BEAR" just as they were sticking their heads in.....which I'm sure made the passerby's want to nominate me for mother of the year:-)

It wasn't long after that we encountered SNOW!  Who doesn't love a good snowball fight in mid-June?

We didn't make it all the way to Dream Lake.  We hit serious snow, which forced us to turn back early.

HIKE #2:  Alberta Falls
After a break at the condo to lunch and nap, we hit the trails again....this time bound for Alberta Falls.  It was a gorgeous little hike and ended at the most magnificient falls!  Spring is definitely the peak time to see them--all the snow melt made for a huge waterfall!
As we climbed up to this rock for a picture (which dropped off about 300 feet into the falls.....I gave the boys the "death talk".  All three didn't let go of our hands for anything:-)

Tuesday morning play

It took some quick thinking to distract Kenny from the idea of taking this car down to the basement.....having a "car wash" did the trick...and kept him occupied for 30 minutes!

Jacob and John's attention quickly turned elsewhere though:-)

Sleeping Angels

Love these new space jammies for summer....and love the sleeping angels wearing them!

Rockin' a look

Jacob keeps rocking the cowboy boot look....despite the clothing involved.  I think he likes the little lift of the heel since he usually ends up doing jumps while wearing them.
